Guillermo Moscoso sparks as Oakland Athletics defeat Kansas City Royals 7-0 - MLB Update

Oakland Athletics’ starter, Guillermo Moscoso had a tremendous day with his pitching as he threw just over eight innings and surrendered just two hits with an ERA of 3.34 in the Athletics’ 7-0 win against the Kansas City Royals at O.co Coliseum, Oakland
on September 7.
Athletics got off to a superb start as they scored their initial run in the very first inning to get a 1-0 lead. Coco Crisp posted the first run for Athletics when Josh Willingham hit a sacrifice fly towards left-field. Second and third inning was not in
favour of the batters as they struggled against the fastballs of the pitchers.
During the second inning, Royals’ first baseman Eric Hosmer popped out to third base while Jeff Francoeur and Mitch Maier both flied out towards centre-field without taking even a single run. At the bottom of third inning, Jemile Weeks singled off right-field
while Willingham and Adam Rosales both flied out to centre-field.
Athletics took a 2-0 lead at the bottom of fourth inning when Michael Taylor was saved to reach second base on the error of Royals’ left-fielder Alex Gordon as Kurt Suzuki scored a single run. In the fifth inning, Athletics’ batters continued to raise their
lead and blasted two runs to give their team a 4-0 lead.
Hideki Matsui and Willingham both contributed two collective runs when Scott Sizemore doubled to deep left-field. Athletics’ batters advanced their lead to 7-0 at the bottom of sixth inning by smashing three runs. Rosales hit a sacrifice fly to centre-field
and Suzuki added one run. The second run during the sixth inning was taken by Taylor when Weeks drove a double-run shot to deep left-field.
Moscoso permitted only one walk and had four strike-outs on his 129 pitches. Speaking to reporters, he said, “I guess my one bad pitch came in the last inning. They showed the last two games that they are good hitters and that just made me focus more. I
was feeling great. It was a great day for everybody. I always want to go deep into the game.”
Weeks added the third or last run for the Athletics when Matsui bunted a single-run drive to centre-field. The final three innings were score-less and the Athletics remained on top until the end. Despite this comfortable win, Athletics lost the three-game
series 2-1 against the Royals at Oakland.
