Guillermo Moscoso’s pitching helps Oakland Athletics nip Baltimore Orioles 8-4 - MLB Update
Oakland Athletics’ starter, Guillermo Moscoso had an extraordinary day with the ball as he threw his six innings with an ERA of 3.48 and allowed only one walk in the Athletics’ 8-4 victory against the Baltimore Orioles at O.co Coliseum, Oakland on August
16.
At the top of first inning, Nolan Reimold struck-out while at right-field, J.J. Hardy flied out and at centre-field Nick Markakis flied out without any run. Similarly, the Athletics were outshined by Orioles at the bottom of first inning as Coco Crisp walked
but at short-stop position, Jemile Weeks grounded out and at third base Hideki Matsui fouled out.
Athletics got off to a decent start as batters smashed three runs in second inning to give their team an initial 3-0 lead. Brandon Allen scored a single run on the double-run shot of Scott Sizemore towards deep left-field. The second run was taken by Sizemore
when Cliff Pennington singled to shallow right-field and Kurt Suzuki moved to second base.
Suzuki made third run for Athletics when Weeks drove a double-run hit towards right-field and Pennington occupied third base to end the second inning. Josh Bell was grounded out to first base during third inning but Mark Reynolds scored first run for Orioles
to reduce their lead. On the other side, Josh Willingham hit a one-run homer (417 feet) towards left-field to raise the Athletics’ lead 4-1, at the end of third inning.
During fourth inning, Orioles cut their deficit 4-2 when Vladimir Guerrero doubled to deep right-centre and Adam Jones posted a single run. In fifth inning, Bell singled off centre-field and Robert Andino added one run to further reduce their lead 4-3. Moscoso
gave up five hits, three runs and two earned runs while getting four strike-outs on his 98 pitches.
In seventh inning, Athletics advanced their lead 7-3 when the batters blasted three runs quickly. Crisp, Pennington and Weeks each scored one individual run to complete a three-run campaign for Athletics. Suzuki hit a sacrifice fly to left-field and Allen
added a single run to give the Athletics an 8-3 lead, at the bottom of eighth inning.
Orioles were able to score only one run during ninth inning to shorten their lead 8-4. Andino reached to short-stop on an infield single and Guerrero contributed the last run for Orioles. However, Athletics levelled the three-game series 1-1, after having
a magnificent win.
