Guillermo Olaso downs Inigo Cervantes in the first round – XVI Open Barletta 2012 CH

World number 221, Guillermo Olaso of Spain, bounced back after getting thrashed in the first set to topple compatriot, Inigo Cervantes, 1-6, 6-2, 6-2 in the opening round at the XVI Open Barletta in Italy on Monday.
Cervantes made a great start to the match, as he allowed Olaso to claim only one game in the opening set, breaking him three times to win 6-1.
The 22-year-old put extreme pressure on Olaso’s weak second serves, amazingly winning 10 of the 12 points on them. Trying to stop Cervantes from dictating, Olaso started to increase his second deliveries’ pace but the idea did
not paid off, as he double faulted three times.
After losing the opener pretty badly, Olaso raised the level of his game, racing to a 3-0 lead in the second set. Cervantes tried to stage a comeback by winning back to back games but Olaso grabbed three consecutively after that
to close it 6-2.
Cervantes served like an amateur player. He put in merely 36 percent of the first deliveries, losing six of the eight points on them. The Spaniard had a better conversion rate on the second serve, as he converted seven of the
14 of them into points but also hit three double faults in the second set.
Olaso and Cervantes swapped a breakthrough in the first four games of the decider, equalising the score at 2-2. The 24-year-old, Olaso, did not lose any after that, clinching four games in a row to win 6-2.
The Spaniard had a low first serve percentage but an incredible conversion rate, pocketing 12 of the 14 points on them in the final set. Olaso was flawless on the second returns, as he won all the five points on them. The Spaniard
could not save the only break point he faced but utilised all the three chances he received. The match lasted for one hour and 55 minutes.
Olaso is drawn to meet either Aljaz Bedene of Slovakia or Italian, Simone Bolelli, in the second round. Bolelli received a wild card entry into the tournament and is the seventh seed.
