Guillermo Olaso ousts Inigo Cervantes-Huegun in first round – Todi Challenger 2011
Monday, 12th September moved on with the 1st round matches of the 2011 Internazionali di Tennis dell'Umbria, Todi Challenger, an ATP Challenger event; Guillermo Olaso, the Spaniard, went on hampering compatriot, Inigo Cervantes-Huegun, in an hour and 59 minutes to take a 6-4, 7-6(4) marginal win into the 2nd round.
Playing each other for the third time, the two young Spaniards have been sensational against each other. Although Huegen has won their previous two of three matches, he was unable to deliver today.
Cranking up the match, Huegun mustered the starting game of the match, however, Olaso followed up levelling the scores instantly. Breaking the 21-year-old compatriot, Olaso pocketed game 3 and game 4, on his serve, to lead the set 3-1.
Huegun, however, pulled back the set when he levelled up the scores winning game 5 and broke the Olaso in game 6. With scores at 3-3, the 23-year-old broke back instantly and took out game 7 and 8 to lead 5-3. Serving next Huegun did cut the scores to 5-4 winning the next game, however, could not break back the 23-year-old. Winning on his serve, Olaso took away the first set winning 6-4 and moved on to set 2.
With the 21-year-old to serve first, the world No.188 broke his challenger on his set opening serve and took the lead. Later on in the game, with score at 4-3 to Olaso, the 21-year-old Spaniard broke back to level the scores once again.  The set eventually went into a tiebreaker with Huegun to open up the decider game. However, the 21-year-old was stormed with lighting forehands and lost the second set as well 7-6(4).
Aged 23, Olaso has made up through the ranking like a fire cracker up in the sky. Ranked world No.188, the Spaniard has been a pro since 2006. Starting off his career as a clay court player, Olaso has had a number of victories in his 5 year run. His clay statistics show a 233-151 win loss ratio, which is surely satisfying. On the contrary, aged 21, Huegun has been more of an all-round player. Almost equalling his win loss records on hard courts and on clay circuits, the young 21-year-old has still got a lot to learn.
Olaso now sits in the 2nd round of the Todi Challenger 2011 to play either top seeded Argentine Carlos Berlocq or local wildcard entrant, Thomas Fabbiano.
