Guillermo Olaso prevails over Patrik Brydolf in the second qualifier – SkiStar Swedish Open 2011
World number 182 Guillermo Olaso of Spain dismissed world number 548 Patrik Brydolf of Sweden in straight sets 6-2, 7-5 in the second round of the qualifying draw at the SkiStar Swedish Open On Sunday. It took the Spaniard just
an hour and sixteen minutes to beat his opponent.
Olaso took the lead straightaway as he broke the Swedish in the first game and held his serve in the next game to take a 2-0 lead. The Spaniard broke again in the seventh game and served out the set in the next game, winning it
6-2.
The 23-year-old hit 58 percent of the first serves and one ace in the opening set. Olaso had a superb first serve conversion rate as he won an incredible 91 percent of the first service points. On the other hand, Brydolf kept his
first serve percentage at 62 percent and delivered a single ace in the first set. The Swedish clinched 62 percent of the first service points. The right-handed had an unimpressive second serve performance, winning just three of the eight second service points
in the first set. Brydolf had no answer to his opponent’s big serve as he managed to win only one of the nine first return points. The Swedish failed to create any break point opportunity on Olaso’s serve and could not save both break points he faced on his
own serve in the opening set.
Carrying the winning momentum into the second set, the Spaniard broke Brydolf in the third game and consolidated on it to go ahead 3-1. However, the Swedish broke back in the tenth game to square off the score at 5-5. Olaso captured
two consecutive games after that, breaking Brydolf in the eleventh game and clinching the set 7-5.
The Spaniard fired 51 percent of the first serves and five aces in the second set. Olaso won fifteen of the nineteen first service points and eight of the eighteen second service points in the second set. The third seed made difference
with the returns, sealing an incredible 42 percent of the first return points in comparison to just 21 percent by his opponent. The Spaniard converted two of the five break points he received on Brydolf’s serve and saved one of the two break points he faced
on his own serve in the second set.
Olaso will face Italian Gianluca Naso, ranked 252nd in the world, in the final qualifier. The Italian defeated world number 301 Harri Heliovaara of Finland in three sets 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 in the second qualifier.
