Guillermo Rigondeaux: Nonito Donaire is a coward who is defaming Filipino people – Boxing News
Guillermo Rigondeaux, the WBA World super bantamweight champion, bashed Nonito Donaire, the WBO and IBO super bantamweight champion, dubbing him as a coward and a pugilist who is defaming the integrity of the Filipino people. He added that Nonito is moving
up to 126-pound division just to avoid him.
Rigondeaux and Donaire, both are considered as ace pugilist in their division in fact Nonito secures the first spot in World Boxing Organisation’s rankings whereas Guillermo resides at the fourth.
It is this reason why Guillermo got mad on hearing the news that Nonito is deciding to move up in the featherweight division. Guillermo was of the view that Donaire does not deserve to move up, adding that he has not swiped off the whole division.
Guillermo further added that he has not even collided with the world number four ranked pugilist (Rigondeaux), adding that this shows how much of a coward the Filipino is.
The raged and irked Rigondeaux moved on and even called the ‘Filipino Flash’ a phony who is scared of powerful belligerents and has never knocked out even a single brawler in the 122-pound division.
The Cuban southpaw stated, “Donaire is running scared of any super bantamweights with power. He hasn’t knocked out anybody at 122 pounds. One thing is for sure, though, he will get knocked out if he has the guts to fight me.”
Guillermo who has successfully defended his title against names such as Willie Casey, Rico Ramos, and recently battered Teon Kennedy to grab a fifth round technical knockout win, compared Nonito from one of his legendary countryman Manny Pacquiao.
While comparing, Rigondeaux just raised one aspect that Manny made his way up to the divisions while beating the best of the best, adding that Nonito unlike Manny has defamed the respect and the name of his country.
The 31-year-old pounder stated, “Manny fought the best fighters around when he was moving up through weight classes but this phony, Donaire, is disappointing fans all over the world, especially Filipino people, by running scared from the best fighter at
122 pounds.”
No matter what grudge Guillermo holds against Nonito but one thing is for sure. Donaire has never collided with powerful men like Guillermo. Furthermore, it seems quite unethical to move up the division by not conquering the former one completely.
Donaire should think about Guillermo’s conversation and should must reply it by either accepting the Cuban’s challenge or by giving an explanation as to why he thinks he is eligible to move up in the featherweight division.
