Guillermo Satt and Sebastien Zietz prevail in Round 3 of San Miguel Pro Zarautz
Chile’s Guillermo Sat and Hawaii’s Sebastien Zietz made the Round 3 (Round of 48) cut at the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) 6-Star San Miguel Pro Zarautz after emerging triumphant in their respective Round 2 (Round of 96) heats that went down at the primary event site of Zarautz in Basque Country, Spain, on Thursday, August 30.
Argentina’s Leandro Usuna finished behind Sat in second place during the 11th heat to advance through into the next round of the competition as well. Brazil’s Thiago Camarao and Australia’s Mitch Crews finished in third and fourth place respectively, consequently getting eliminated from the competition.
The 12th heat saw France’s Maxime Huscenot accompany Zietz into the next round of the competition after finishing in second place. Brazil’s Leonardo Naves finished in third place, while Japan Teppei Tajima had to settle for fourth place. The bottom-two waves resulted in the ejection of the two surfers from the contention for the event title.
The latest day of the competition saw clean three-to-four foot waves on offer at the main event site. The conditions were a bit demanding, though they were nothing that the talented surfers could not handle.
The 11th heat saw Sat take on Usuna, Camarao and Crews in a four-man battle for the Round 3 spot. The Chilean surfer earned a 6.73 off his first business-wave and added an additional 5.03 points to his account, thus finishing with a heat-total of 11.76 points. The score remained unbeatable throughout the course of the heat to see him through into the next round.
Usuna collected a couple of five-point rides off his top-two waves to conclude the heat with a two-wave total of 11.04 points. The score turned out to be just enough to add him to the Round 3 line-up.
Camarao finished in third place with a heat-total of 10.63 points, while Crews finished in last place after registering a heat-total of 6.00 points.
Zietz put on a remarkable performance in the 12th heat to get the better of Huscenot, Naves and Tajima.
The Hawaiian surfer got off to an impressive start, earning a 6.50 off his first business-wave. Almost halfway through the heat, he locked a juicy wave to unleash a series of exquisite manuevers, earning a 9.17 for the effort and thus moving to a heat-total of 15.67 points.
Huscenot put on a solid fight, scoring a 6.93 and an 8.00 off his two business-waves. However, he ended up 0.74 points short of the require score and thus had to settle for runner-up place. The result was still good enough to carry him to the next round.
Naves finishing in third place with a heat-total of 9.96 points, while Tajima had to settle for bottom-place after concluding the heat with a  heat-total of 9.24 points. Both the surfers were removed from the competition as a result of their bottom-two finish.
