I am adopting a guinea pig at the Humane Society in the next few days, but I am going to buy a C&C Cage for it. (Cubes and Coroplast) -- Do I honestly need a lid? I do NOT want any guinea pigs escaping.

Let me know, thanks.

  1. Having kept rabbits and guinea pigs for a number of years I would say YES.Not only are they very inquisitive and somewhat intelligent and could find a way to knock it over and escape but something else could get IN.Better to be safe then sorry.Just put a lid on!

  2. if you have any other pets ike a cat then you should but mine hasnt climed out yet....the cage is like 14 inches tall...mabey when it gets bigger you should but it isnt necicry

  3. Unless you have a dog, cat, or toddler you don't need a lid. Guinea pigs do not even make an effort to escape from the area where there food is. They cannot climb and aren't able to jump very high. Lids are for safety from other animals or young children in the house.

Also, you should adopt two guinea pigs. They're social herd animals that really enjoy living in pairs.

  4. I dont think you'll need a lid. Def get one if you have other animals, but otherwise the guinea pigs will not be able to climb over.

  5. You need to get more than one guinea pig as they are herd animals and need company.

Guinea pigs can't climb so as long as there is nothing by the sides they can use to get over they woun't be able to escape.  You will need the lid if you have dogs or cats though.
