  1. If your guinea pig is refusing all food, it needs to go to a vet immediately. The absolute WORST symptom in guinea pigs is refusing food! Guinea pigs digestive systems are made for them to constantly be eating food. Once they stop they go downhill very quickly. The issue could be as simple as a painful overgrown tooth, so you have to go to an exotics vet immediately to see if they can help your guinea pig. Good luck!

  2. He/she could be sick.  Try giving your guinea pig a treat/veggies/fruit.  If it takes those than it may not be sick - nothing could be wrong at all or maybe its depressed.  If your piggy is sick, go to the vet.  Ask them for a syringe to feed it by hand.  They will also probably give you an antibiotic.  For my hamster I mixed baby food with water and put that in the syringe then held her and had my sister put the food in her mouth.  My hamster liked sweet carrot baby food the best.  But like I said, it could be nothing.  Hope your piggy starts eating again!

  3. How long have you had your guinea pig? If you only just got it, chances are its just stressed. Its been taken from somewhere it thought was a nice safe environment and from its friends/family into some strange place where its all alone. And its terrified, leave it alone, with its food and water and just don't go near it for a while let it get used to its surroundings. Once you leave it alone it might pluck up the courage to go and eat. Keep an eye on it for a couple fo days and if it continues to refuse to eat then there is a serious problem.

The problem with guinea pigs is that their digestive systems are designed to have food constantly going through them, guinea pigs adore food, their favourite thing to do is eat. If you own a guinea pig then this shoudl be apparent to you, if a guinea pig ever stops eating it is a sign that something is seriously wrong,

If your piggie isn't new and you've had it for a while, the first thing to do is check the teeth. Its the most obvious place that there could be a problem, wrap your piggie up in a towel, with its head sticking out, this will make it feel safe and secure, plus it will stop it wriggling and kicking. Tilt it back gently and lift its lips up to check the front teeth. There is also a point on the side of the jaw bone, if you press gently on this point the mouth should pop open, but be careful using this method. If the teeth and broken or overgrown then the problem is apparent. Either way take the pig to a vet, see guinea pigs have molars that we can't see, the vet will use a special instrument to check the back of the teeth. Also if their too long try to find a vet that will trim the teeth without aneastetic as guinea pigs have no nerve endings in their teeth which means that it won;t hurt when their trimmed. Anaestetic will just make more risks.

If you can't see anything wrong with the teeth. Then you guinea pig needs a exotic vet, a regular one just won;t do as they odten don't know much abaout piggies and may fail to diagnose the cause of the problem. Not eating is a sign of pain, and because they love etaing so much, they have to be in a h**l of a lot of pain to stop.

If you can''t get to a vet, book an appointment for as soon as possible and you will need to syringe feed him food and water. Get your piggies pellet mix and add hot water to it to make a sort of mash, put it in a syringe, wrap your piggie in a towel and gently put the end of the syringe in the side of its mouth and slowly syringe in, be careful and slow, remember give your piggie time to chew as guinea pigs can't throw up and you don;t want to choke your piggie. Get your pig to the vet as soon a possible.

Good luck, hope that piggie gets well asap!
