Question:

Guinea Pig Stress?

Do guinea pigs tend to get stressed easily if they get shifted around to alot of places? Like I'll pick up my guinea pig and every now and then bring him over to another friend's house or outside, and sometimes hold him on my lap in another room. I mean, I'll notice when I put him back in his cage sometimes, he'll wheek and squeal in confusion, as if he's disorientated, and then move and look around. Am I harming him in any way?

  1. They shouldn't as long as there's not alot of noise where he's being taken, but don't over do it either. You know they cannot have potatoes or the peels right? We didn't know it years ago and our kids guineas both died. We got educated and they have one again. He squeels and squeeks, it's natural for them. They require ALOT of vitamin C so make sure your also feeding some oranges from time to time. We bought a large bag of Parrot food at Walmart because it contains so many fruits and vegetables, even nuts and a ton of vitamins. We mixed like 1/4 of that with 1/2 bag of guinea pig pellets into an empty coffee can, feed him a cup of the combination a day. We still give him fresh fruits and vegetables, he's very spoiled! LOL

  2. Try keeping him to the house and your own yard for the time being. Be gentle with him, and give him treats when he gets put back.

Guinea Pig's need to be help for 3 hours once a week, or to have someone to see and talk to, or to at least be in a living room where others are.

You may wanna take him to the vet, Just in case.
