Question:

Guinea Pig friendliness?

My mom won't let me get a guinea pig because she thinks they are very unsociable. She's had 2 before in her younger days, BUT she recieved them from friends as ADULTS, so no wonder they weren't friendly. I keep telling her that but she just thinks all of them have like no personalities. She's not right is she? I've held some of baby ones at the pet store and some run from me, but some let me pick them up. Once i'm holding them though, they are pretty easy to hold and handle. She's seen me do this before. How do I convince her that they are good pets, or is she right?

  1. OMG, Guinea Pigs are the most sociable rodents.  At least equal to ferrets and rabbits and such, if not more.  In fact, they are so sociable that Guinea Pig experts (I guess thats what you would call them.  they live for guinea pigs) suggest that you get two, because they get lonely during the night, with nobody to play with for 8 hours.

I hope you can lean your mom toward you getting some Guinea Pigs, they are really great pets.  Also, the better the owner, the more social they will be toward humans.

  2. guinea pigs are sooooo socialble - i have had several as a kid and i liked them better than hamsters hands down,  i have had ones that bite me - but my brother and sister had mj and esmeralda and they were awesome -  never get more than one hamster always get more than one guniea pig in my opinion -and after working at a petsmart  back in the day- they were always the first to go - and hamsters bite and guniea pigs ran ----  it alll starts when they were babies - so make sure you dont drop them - stay low to the ground when holding them  and give them treats - alot !!!!

  3. She isn't right, guinea pigs are very sociable, and can grow very strong bonds with their owners.  They all have their own personality and are unique!  Convincing her will be hard since she's owned some before that weren't friendly, not sure why they wouldn't be.  Keep showing her how friendly they are at the pet stores, if you have a friend that owns some, show her.  You could research it and show her what you find too! My guineas are very friendly and have awesome personalities!

  4. I have a guinea pig and she is so sociable!  She is a lot friendlier than all of my other pets, and she's way nicer than hamsters.  She never bites, is very sweet, and loves to be held.

  5. Guinea pigs are one of the most sociable rodents. They are very friendly and are fun to be around. My guinea pig even tries to act like a dog! They love to talk and run around rooms. They may not be your mom's favorite pet, but if they make you happy, that should be enough for her. Guinea pigs love attention and all they want is to be sociable with you.
