Question:

Guinea Pig troublez?

I've had my two girls for about three years now with no behavioural probs.

Lately , Cara-my brown guinea pig has found out how 'fun' it is to lift up her food dish in her mouth and clunk it down again.

I was able to tolerate that, but now she's gotten a lil more deviant and is picking up her whole dish (and it's big-two parts to it) and throwing it off to the side. It's not a HUGE issue BUT all her food gets spilled and it's such a waste. Their food is pretty expensive. Has anyone else dealt with this and has idea?

thanks

  1. Just fix it down or weigh it down by sticking weight underneath. Once they realise they cant lift it anymore theyll forget they can do it.

  2. feed her from the ground put the food on the gound for her to eat for 1 or 2 weeks and then put the dish back and see she does.If she still does it take the bowl out for longer.

  3. I agree. Petsmart sells some feeder tubes that attach firmly to the side of the cage. Animals dont care how big a mess they are making because they dont have to clean up after themselves. I would suggest getting one of these feeder tubes. She may be doing out of boredom.

  4. Get a heavy, stoneware-type bowl. I use that type for mine as MY squirts used to do the same thing.

  5. no more treats and no more attention  untill she learns

  6. You may want to have her teeth looked at. Is she eating the same? Has she dropped any weight? These are just things to consider.
