Question:

Guinea Pigs?!?!?!?!?

by  |  earlier

I've heard that these are poisonus, and not good for guinea pigs to eat:

-beans, except green beans

-potato and potato skins (except sweet-potato)

-rubarb

Is this true? Can they eat yellow beans?

Are blueberries, apple, raspberries, blackberries, peas, peapods, and tomatoes alright for them to eat?

Is anything else poisonus?

  1. I don't think guinea pigs will eat potato skins or beans.I would not give them to your pet anyway...

All of the others are fine but due to personal experience none of my animals have liked raspberry's or blackberry's.They do however like- celery cabbage carrot red apple green apple dandelion leaves apple tree leaves and sometimes turnip!

Good foods for guinea pigs to eat are: apples, bananas, pears, strawberries, grapefruit, honeydew melon, kiwis, tangerines, yellow plums, oranges, watermelon, grapes, lemons, cauliflower leaves, broccoli, turnips, peppers, parsley, red beets, cucumbers, celery, spinach, tomatoes, and zucchini.

Bad foods for guinea pigs to eat are: Iceberg lettuce, all varieties of green cabbage, chinese cabbage, cauliflower, and red cabbage.

Poisonous foods for guinea pigs to eat are: Potato peelings and raw beans. As for the actual potato, there has been some confusion about whether they are or aren't poisonous to guinea pigs. To be on the safe side, I would suggest not feeding your guinea pig potatoes.

  4. Yes, that is true. I've never heard of yellow beans, but I'd steer clear of them just in case... Stick with greens beans, mine love them! Blueberries, apples, raspberries, blackberries, peas, peapods, and tomatoes are all fine but should all be fed in moderation. Never feed fruits more than once or twice a week, they are sugary and fattening. Iceberg lettuce is one thing that you can also never feed guinea pigs. I've recently learned to stay away from bananas and grapes as well, but very small pieces of banana may be okay as a treat.
