  1. Well it really depends where you live, Oxbow tend to be the best supplier of pellets, but there are plenty of other good pellet companies. Pellet food tends to be best as it prevents selective feeding, which is when guinea pigs pick out the bits that taste nice and leave the bits that are good for them. I feed my guinea pigs supa guinea excel, however I know people who've had pigs that won't this pellet food, so it depends on your guinea pigs, so I would say try out a few and decided on which you and your pigs like best. Remember guinea pigs have very delicate stomachs so introduce each food gradually, don;t just suddenly switch them onto it.

There are tons of other brands, some for you to try are:

Waggs Optimum Premium Guinea Pig Food

Burgess Supa Excel (call them and they will send you a free sample)

As for bedding, I use carefresh because its very absorbant and had odour control. I have boys, and they tend to pee one h**l of a lot, so carefresh is really great for that. You will need to change the soiled bedding at least once every 2-3 days and give the cage a full-on clean at least once a week to keep it smelling fresh and clean. You can also use aspen shavings, stay away from cedar shavings as they are toxic to small animals.

Guinea pigs also need a constant supply of grass hay, such as timothy hay, you don't need a specific brand of timothy hay, I tend to buy the pet shops own dust-extracted straight timothy hay.

As for cages, a long as its a big cage it will be fine, in England we buy a brand of cages called Nero 4's I don;t know if you have those in America but these are deemed suitable for 2-3 piggies. Bear in mind that if you have a smaller cage it will need cleaning out a lot more frequently and your piggies will need a lot more time out of their cage to exercise and stretch their legs :)

Generally c&c cages are thought to be the best, you build them yourself and you can make them as big as youw nat, give them extra floors, they are great fun, you can really put your imagination into making the cage and you can make it however you want :) Here's a site on them:

Good luck with getting your guinea pigs :)

  2. The best pellets and timothy hay is definitely Oxbow. The store locater on their website will tell you where to find it near you. http://www.oxbowhay.com

They should also eat large amounts of fresh vegetables every day. Romaine lettuce, baby carrots, cucumbers, red bell peppers, kale, cilantro, etc. are good. Mostly any vegetables besides iceberg lettuce are fine to feed them. Fruits shouldn't be fed more than once or twice a week, they're too sugary and fattening.

A good bedding is Aspen or Carefresh. My personal favorite is two layers of towels with a layer of polyester fleece over top. It's cheapest in the long run, easy to clean, comfortable, doesn't smell, and you won't have shavings all over your floor!

You can't exactly buy cages, but you can build one that is the proper size. All cages bought at petstores are much too small. Build a C&C Cage, they are easy to make and very cheap! http://www.cavycages.com

To find the materials you can go to either Walmart, Target, or Bed Bath & Beyond for the cage grids. For the coroplast you'll have to check around your area for sign stores.
