I have 2 guinea pigs. I am thinking about either getting or adopting a cat or kitten. Would the guinea pigs be OK with a cat or kitten. I don't want them to freak out or anything. Also if you are a cat owner, could you tell me how to convince my mom to let me get a cat? Thanks!

  1. well it depends you have to teach your cat/kitten to leave your guinea pig alone and to get your mom to get u a kittne/cat just tell her that cats are quiet calm and dont need a lot of attention

  2. Well, Cats are really playful I have one myself and I got a fish and I had the fish a couple of minutes and when I went in my room water was every where! and I found the fish dead on the floor with its head tore off!Eww...But if you really want a cat cause there more playful then a guinea pig and you can cuddle with them more but if your willing to risk it go ahead but be in mind one might die. And just ask your mom if you can talk to her in privite and ask!!!

  3. well, when you go to get your guinea pig food, look at the kittens at he pet store with your mom and play with them and stuff! oh, and the guinea pigs should be just fine with it!

  4. We have a Cat and a Guinea Pig. The way we got them to get used to each other (although our cat is still freaked out of the guinea pig, but there is no malicious behavior on either part). My Sister and I each held one of the animals and just let them smell and look at each other, after doing this for a few days, they didn't seem so scared.

Cats are awesome pets, short haired cats don't shed (we have a long hair), and they are very snuggly and usually friendly. If you have any sort of rodent infestation, Cats do the trick. Over the 5 years living here, my cat has probably easily killed twelve dozen rodents ranging from Rats, to Mice, to Moles, and especially Gophers. If you do convince your Mom, do not declaw the cat, they usually don't scratch anyways, and it is abusive to declaw.

Another thought on the Guinea Pig and cat getting along, It all depends on the individual personalities, your cat may despise it, or it may love it. I have heard of some very friendly attachments in between piggies and cats. Make sure the cage is catproof just in case the Cat get's rebellious thoughts (lol), and when you are holding them close to get to know eachother, make sure the pig is out of reach of the claws.

Hope you get a kitty, Good Luck

  5. Guinea Pigs dont like cats

I own 3 cats but no guinea pig all of my cats are stray i suggest  you adopt  a cat there are alot of cats and kittens out there that are looking for families.
