Guinea pig bedding?

I would LOVE to find a easy, mess free guinea pig bedding. Would carpet be a good idea? What about towels? Yesterday's news? I'm using bales of bedding that i also used for my horses (smart people don't freak! I checked it, no harmful stuff + vet gave it the O.K). Ideas and experiences please!!!

  1. omg i have the same problem lol but i found that they like fleece alot its a little more costly but they dont make a mess, its soft and warm so it keeps them warm in the winter here are some websites

  2. I line my pen with a few layers of newspaper, then then a thick layer of CareFresh.  I also throw in a fleece blanket in part of the cage.

I end up cleaning the cage 2x a week, but it's fairly easy.

  3. Carpet would probably get dirty quick and be hard to clean. Towels would probably be a good idea, they would be easy to wash. Only worry i would have is the guinea pigs trying to eat them. I use CritterCare recycled paper stuff for my bunny, and it works really well but it gets pretty expensive. I wouldn't use newspaper though, the ink probably isn't very good for them.

  4. Try using kiln dried pine or Carefresh though it can get messy if your pig likes to popcorn and kick a lot. You can also use fleece. Newspaper and towels aren't the most absorbent. Go here for more info and better tips:  http://www.guineapigcages.com
