i just realized when i woke up.

she had four babies.

but the sad part is that i am now in las vegas and ill be here for 3 days.

but i left them alot and i mean alot of pellets carrots, cucomber and grass. and a full water bottle.

and i do have someone checking up on them every day but that person doesnt really know much about pets so im worried.

will the mother take care of them??

the mom really didnt want to let her babies drink milk from her.

will there be a strong chance for survival???

  1. No-one can say 100% that it's going to be just fine, but generally guinea pigs are good mothers. She probably didn't want her babies to drink from her right then- you see it in larger animals like pigs. They won't lie down until they want to feed, and then they get up when they want. Guinea pigs are the same.

There is a fairly strong chance. It's unusual for guinea pigs to feel stressed and kill/eat their babies unless there's something wrong with them, but keep them in a quiet and dark place, and don't touch her, the babies, or any nest she's made. If the male is still in there, it's best to remove him, just in case.

  2. don't stress over it :) make sure their cage is cleaned from all that blood, or it may attract ants. Seems like you have it pretty much under control. milk always helps, but the babies will also be nibbling at stuff around the cage. in a few weeks they will not even need milk.

If you need to, feed them a little condensed milk mixed with karo syrup through an eyedropper, and you may want to give the mom a little gatorade sometimes to keep her strength up.

don't worry, cavies are STRICTLY herbivores. they cannot eat their own babies, even if they want to. Definately remove the father. He may not aggressively attack the babies, but usually sows go into heat right after birth, and you don't want her to get pregnant again. He may accidentally trample the babies when trying to get the sow...

    good luck :)

  3. Is the father of the guinea pigs with the mother and the offspring? If so, tell the person who's checking on them to immediately remove the father, because the father will almost definately kill the offspring.

I think your guinea pigs will be alright, but I think it is best if you get back to them as soon as possible, because despite what some people think; it is best to start to handle the babies as soon as possible. Trust me, iv'e had two litters. All of the babies in the litters survived.

  4. ok, MAKE SURE NOONE TOUCHES THE CAGE, exept to change the water (now that mommy gave birth, shell be very thirsty) and the food. as long as the cage is undisturbed, the babies have a chance of survival. although the cage will start to smell, you shouldnt really touch it for 2 weeks. or else mommy will eat the babies. ive seen it done

  5. dont worry the mommie will take care of her little piggies and you left alot of food so they will be okay dont worry

  6. it should be ok if u DONT disturd her to much just leave her to it all u have to do is change her water and give her food

  7. have you read http://www.guinealynx.info/reproduction.... ?

they need fresh food daily, alfalfa and a baby proofed cage. it's best to weigh them all daily to monitor them.

the dad isn't in with them, is he?

carrots and cucumber are not the best veggies to feed regularly
