  1. they need a good size cage[no wire bottom], a large water bottle, they need the paper based bedding because wood bedding can harm them, timothy hay to nest in and to eat, a wooden chew toy so their teeth dont over grow, vitamin c supplement[you can get nurtiphase food, it has the vitamin c in it already] be careful with plastic food bowls or anything plastic, they love to chew on it, they need a little house to hide in..they have wood and plastic ones, they need attention, they're kinda like dogs and can sense you are its parent. dont get one of the balls you can put them in they wont use it..pretty much they think its just somewhere 2 hide out and chill. they eat carrots and romanie lettuce if you give them iceburg it can harm them because of the water content, it will give them very bad diahrea..i learned out after a gave some to mine.  i know it kind of seems like a lot goes into them but they are very easy to keep.  theyre pretty clean they can smell from time to time so use a spray shampoo you can get at a pet store, theyre bedding needs to be changed once a week. their urine has a strong odor and if your holding them for a long time be careful of them peeing on you.  for easier clean ups in the cage you can litter box train them.

  2. I have two girl guinea pigs! They are the sweetest things ever! If you want some quick info w/o heading to any sites then here you go!

Hay: They must be accesible to hay 24/7! The best brand to use it Timothy Hay. Either put it on the floor of their cage or in a hayrack.

Diet: They need a good brand of pellets to help w/ their Vitamin c issues. I use Timothy Complete. They don't manufacture their own Vitamin C so you have to give it to them. You also, along with the pellets, need to feed them vegetables. I feed mine carrot and romain lettuce. DON'T FEED THEM SEEDS, NUTS,  ANYTHING WITH DYE IN IT, OR DRIED FRUIT!! You can give them fruit but not on a daily basis.

Cage: They need a pretty roomy cage to be happy. If you can't get them and adaquete cage, take them out frequently. They love to play and need lots of excercise. You need to let them run around for three to four hours a day under your supervision. They love to talk and they squeak alot. Mine have never kept me up at night at all.

Bedding: You need a good bedding at the bottom of the cage. DO NOT USE PINE OR CEDAR SHAVINGS! These cause upper-respiratory problems and are bad for the guineas. Use something like CareFresh instead.

**I have done seven to ten hours of research before I got my guineas. You want to have the healthiest ones possible!! Take care of yours! Don't forget to visit some websites, too!**

  3. There is alot to caring for a guinea pig! They are alot harder to take care of than you think! First of all you would most likely need 2 guinea pigs because they are social animals and enjoy eachothers company. They need a big cage (most of the time not found in pet stores), which you'll probably will have to make if you want a happy guinea pig, see www.guineapigcages.com for more information. They need 1/4 cup of timothy hay based pellets, along with lots of fruits and veggies, http://www.guineapigcages.com/forum/diet...  is the link for all the foods they can have!! Do not use pine or cedar bedding for them as it's toxic, and they need unlimited timothy or any types of grass hay. Do not feed them anything else execpt fruits, veggies, hays and grasses, and their food. Everything else (including "guinea pig treats") are very fattening and not needed in their diets. They do not need Vit. C drops like everyone says, as long as you feed them their fruits and veggies. You shoudl hols them daily and try to let them run around daily to stretch their little legs. And, no run around balls or wheels, they are bad for their backs and could seriously injure them! And if you really want a guinea pig, please try to adopt first, because most pet store guinea pigs from pet stores are sick or even pregnant, so be prepaired for a vet visit! That's pretty much all I can think of right now, I hope you really think about a guinea pig and they make awesome pets!

  5. The best thing to do is to adopt at least two guinea pigs.  They are very social and need a companion.  You'll need a nice big cage for them to live in, pet store cages are very small and very expensive.  They don't give guinea pigs any room to run around or play.  A C&C cage is huge, cheap and easy to clean.

For care they need plenty of grassy hay, that should be the majority of their diet.  They always need to have hay available.  They should also have a good quality pellet like Oxbow or KM.

They also need at least a cup of veggies every day.  Mostly leafy greens like lettuces (not iceberg), kale, parsley and cilantro.  Then you'll add in other veggies like bell peppers or small amounts of fruit.

For bedding you have a few options.  Never use cedar or pine that has not been kiln dried.  Aspen, carefresh and yesterdays news are all good beddings.  I use fleece with a thick layer of towels underneath.  Good ideas here:

Guinea pigs are not cheap or easy pets.  They need attention every day and their cage needs to be cleaned often.  Mine gets changed every 4-6 days and swept out one to two times a day.  Between food and bedding I spend at least $35 a month.

When guinea pigs get sick they need to go to the vet immediately, sometimes that means the emergency vet.  Vet bills are not small just because the pet is, my guinea pig vet is more expensive than my dog's vet.  A sick guinea pig will often stop eating, this means that they have to be syringe fed every 4-6 hours (even during the night).

They're wonderful pets and absolutely adorable.  They are a lot of responsibility though and can live for over 8 years.

For tons of info read through this care guide, it covers everything you'll need to know.

  6. first of all spend alot of time with them if you consider you cant spend alot of time with him then get him some company, long haired ones need monthly grooming and daily brushing, short haired ones need to be brushed but not that often, they need vitamin c cause they are like us that they cant produce their own vitamin c,you need to clean their cage regularly cause they are clean animals clean their water bottle and dish bowl daily fresh water should be available at all time they need hay and toys they need chew toys cause then their teeth can get really long they need exercise and just in case they get really dirty you can bath them but you dont have to cause they are like cats that clean themselves, they are active at day and sleep at night, they make really cute names and are not that expensive they cost like $15,they are wonderful pets, good luck
