I just wanted to know what genes does a guinea pig take from its dad?

And what genes does it take from its mom?

Please have these in seperate sections if you answer this because I really need to know.

I know that guinea pigs take how friendly they are from their dad, but nothing else.

P.s don't worry my guinea pig is 5 months old and is expecting her litter this week.

  1. awwww! she's having babies??!!! How sweet....Well anyways, I think you shouldn't worry about that. You should worry about the babies.

  2. You are obviously very uneducated and I'd advise you against ever breeding again. Guinea pigs do not get any specific genes from either parent. Just like any animal, you never know what genes it will get from which of it's parents. They don't get their 'friendliness' from their dad, friendliness is in no way a genetic trait.

  3. genetics are different depending on the pigs. i would not count on guessing the traits of ur pigs just by what you think is in the strand of chromosomes in the father and what is in the mother.

if you don't think that they could be complicated, try making sense of this:

    http://www.jem.org/cgi/content/abstract/...

this site has a LOT of info on everything about guinea pigs:

    http://netvet.wustl.edu/species/guinea/g...

good luck with deciphering that! good luck with ur new pigs!

  4. well don't worry um i have 2 guinea pigs now and they do not do anything but one of my guinea pigs pee on my bed today so yep.
