I've reacently noticed one of my guinea pigs has dandruff. However I've been reading that it can sometimes be lice or mites. However, it doesn't move but it seems to be making them itchy? Is it possible that its just dry skin? If so what can help them? Thanks in advance!

  1. If your guinea pig is really personably and not scared of  people, you can try giving her a bath in the sink with some smalll animal shampoo.

  2. Do you put mite stuff on him/her every month or so to prevent - if not you could try this as it will just rule something else out. Maybe if you try to change the shampoo that you use for it to something that has antidandruff on it.

  3. Guinea pigs often have dry skin. You need to take her to the vet and they can prescribe medication for it.

  4. May be you should give them a nice bath.A strong pet shampoo might help the dandruff go away if not try a medicine!

  5. Hey,  I grew up with hamsters and recently owned two gins and four rabbits.  I've spoken with several vet's when my kids had lice and they told me it was unlikely the rodents would get lice.  However, mites I'm unfamiliar with.  Make sure his cage is cleaned at least twice a week, has clean water and has his Multie vitamin drops.  I think there is a powder for the mites.  They can get fleas but you'd see those.  As far as the dandruff, is it white and flaky or scabby?  You didn't say.  Make sure hes getting his vitamins It could be a deficiency.  Call the vet hospital or a vet that deals with exotics they should know.   And your screen name looks Russian.  I speak a little.  Good luck!!

  6. My sister treats her guinea pigs with a half a kitten dose of revolutions, from the vet it only costs a couple dollars.. if you think it is lice or mites.
