Guinea pig marking territory??

It kinda looks like he is wiping his butt on my carpet when i take him out to play. He is dry on his rear end but is this a sign of a pooping or peeing problem?

My other guinea pig has only done this once.

  1. Yes he is marking his territory. It is nothing to be worried about. it means he is happy where he is and he is marking it as his own.

  2. They do mark their territory. This is perfectly natural. They have an oil gland near their butt that they drag on the floor to mark down their place. If he does it excessively, you might want to see a vet because it could be a problem. But if he's just doing it in new places or places that might have something elses smell on it, it's fine and normal!

  3. Your Guinea Pig may tend to be itchy on his/her rear, so what you can do is give your Guinea Pig a nice bath and examine how the results have come (also clean up the cage)

Remember: Guinea Pigs don't need lots of baths you should only give them at bath twice a year or three times an year because it dries up their skin and it may lead to dandruff.

    Or...

Your Guinea Pig may have worms.

Their is a way to give worming treatment to small animals.

It's liquid and can't give to sick or injured animals.

I'm sorry but i cant say where you can get the product from cause we may be from a different country.

    Also...

Your Guinea Pig may like the floor as a scratching post, like with some Guinea Pigs when you raise your hand above their head (snout) they lift up and rub agents it.

Any Questions i would be pleased to answer..

Oh and he/she is marking her teritory. : )

    Good Luck!

  4. Sounds like he is scent marking. If he's an adult and doing this, I bet you can smell something horrible. It's the only time my boys cages smell. They go crazy scent marking a new cage.

  5. Hmm.... you can take him to the vet and see something. Maybe his booty is sore? Lol. But take him to the vet.

    Good luck=)

  6. He is marking his territory.

The interior of the perineal sac, which contains the testicles, is coated with a white pasty substance called cecum. The cecum coats the interior of the perineal sac so that the piggie can p**p easily (it acts like a lubricant). The cecum also serves a secondary purpose. When the piggie is marking territory, he smears the cecum on whatever he is marking as "his". The cecum has a very distinctive and foul odor.

My boars do this every time I change the bedding in their cages.
