  1. You DO NOT have to take your guinea pig to the vet. All guinea pigs produce this milky substance in their eyes. When they clean themselves, they put this on their paws to clean their fur. I am not sure why they do this but it is not an eye infection there is no need to be worried.

  2. This is very normal.  All guinea pigs secrete this liquid from their eyes. It is used for washing the facial area. When the liquid is secreted, the piggie uses the forearms to wipe the liquid from the eyes and over the cheeks and mouth area. Its like soap for them.

  3. Yes, as Millie said, it's very likely that this milky substance in her eye can be an eye infection.

This needs to be treated as soon as possible, because with small animals like rodents, if eye infections lurk around for long periods of time, the rodent will become blind. And don't forget, these animals already are half blind!

    Good luck,

  4. NOT AN INFECTION! Guinea pigs use the milk produced from their eyes as an antibacterial to wash their fur. Sometimes it can be overproduced, usually not a big problem!! I would make note of it if it is in really large amounts. But all piggies use the milk from their eyes when washing.

    DO NOT BE ALARMED!

    God bless and Good Luck!

  5. That could be an eye infection. You need to take your guinea pig to the vet right away so that she won't become blind. Good luck and God Bless:)
