I have a female guinea pig and I was holding her last night and she nipped me! It wasn't a hard bite, but It didn't feel too good. She had never done it before that and I held her today and she didn't nip me. What the h**l did she nip me for??? lol.

  1. Had you eaten or touched food?  She could have smelled that and thought that there was food there, but turned out to be your hand.  Try washing your hands before handling her.  You shouldn't worry about it since thats the only time she has done it, but it is bound to occasionally happen when you handle animals.

  2. She may have mistaken it for food, or she may have wanted something to chew on. I'm not sure......you may have moved or made a noise in a way that she felt threatened.

  3. If you hold them wrong, smell strange, smell like food, or they're just going through a phase, pigs bite.  Mine bit like crazy for the first few months.  It's nothing to be worried about.  When it happens, I usually give a gentle bop on the nose and they learn not to bite.  Also, from my experiences, girls bite more than boys.
