  1. you need to keep it in a cage and change it's bedding two to three times a month.  you need to give it fresh food and water 3 to 4 times a week.  guinea pigs also eat alot of fresh veggies or maybe fruits.  clean the cage thoroughly once a month.  If you need more tips you can call your local pet store.

  2. they will get used to you and know when your in the rrom and will make sounds to show they are excited!!!

    its so cute!!!

  3. They tottaly rock good luck with your new guinea pig if you have any quetsions on guinea pig illnesses ill try to answer them

    GOOD LUCK

  4. They love to be talked to and will talk back to you.  You can let them loose in your place too..after they know who you are, they will come to you.  They love all vegs and dried fruit.  But, be careful they like to chew on the bottom of your sofa skirt and curtains...

  5. DON"T DROP HIM! Give him vitamin c drops. Give him a igloo. No drafts. Keep him inside.

  6. guineapigcages.com

every owner needs to give it a visit. i luv that site!

and DO NOT i repeat DO NOT get a leash or harness. those are a waste of money. belive me a have 17 guinea pigs soo i know and  most of my friends have guinea pigs. it took me one hour to try and put a harness on my guinea pig (1 at once a time) it took her 2 seconds to take it of.

okay... anyways. go easy on fresh food for a guinea pig. for my new piggies i feed them a baby carrot a day. make sure you have vitamin c drops . i would higly recomend oasis guinea pig vitamin c drops which ALL my piggies love :)

food... get the ones with little or no treats. i made a mistake with my first guinea pig and she got sugar addicted for a while but then i switched to non treat foods and now she is fine as ever. change your guinea pigs pellets two times a day and it's water once 1 to 3 days. have a orange slice availible everyday or if lack of vitamin c ur guinea pig will get scurvy. also make sure that your cage bottom is not wired or your guinea pig can get brumble foot which is eztreeeemly painful. I'm guessing that you only have one guinea pig so for home made toys you can go to:

    http://guineapigcages.com/toys.htm

and once  you are used to your guinea pig get another one. guineapigs are herd animals so they enjoy companny.

and cozies or cudle cups are a huge hit with cavies.

good luck with lumpy and many blessings to both :)

  7. i have 2 guinea pigs

i have to clean out there cage every 3 days... cleaning out there cage incudes theese things to do for me.....

    1. throughing out all bedding

    2.scrubing down there flooring

    3. putting in fresh bedding

4.putting in fresh hay and veggies

    5. replacing there water (i do this 1nce a day actually)6. putting in one bowl of pellets

i groom them once a month

    which includes.....

    1. giving them a bath one at a time

    2. drying them of (normally with a hairdryer)

    3. cutting extra hair on my long haired guinea pig's bum

    4. brushing my long furred guinea pig's hair

    4. cutting claws to acceptable leangth

    5. checking teeth for leangth and evenness

i let my guinea pigs outside to play about 2 hours a day.

    this includes.....

    4. i NEVER leave theme unatended just incase they get stuck or find a way out or such

    i have 2 guinea pigs

so luckily i dont need to spend to much time with them because they socialise between themselfs

i would definatly suggest getting 2 guinea pigs rather then 1 because ot isnt that much work or money then 2

yet they are never lonly, you dont need to spend as much time with them

and they are just happier in genral

    CAGE

    I WOULD SUGGETS A C&c cage

i have one it was very cheap and very easy tro make and most of all very easy to clean

guinea pigs love to be talked to and love music

BTW funny name ... lumpy lol

  8. Don't feed them baby carrots whatever you do! We went through 2 guinea pigs when i was little because we didn't know they are treated w/ a chemical that is poisionus to guinea pigs and not humans. They can eat regular carrots though, and they love veggies. Other than that, I'm kinda Guinea Pig ignorant lol.

  9. 1. love them

    2. give them lots of attention

    3. give them vegetables everyday

    4. be very gentle

    5. clean their cage at least every week

  10. Has Lumpy whistled yet?  When a guinea pig whistles its usually hungry and wants to be fed and/or watered.  They also will learn to whistle if their human is close and the guinea pig wants some loving attention.  Keep Lumpy's cage CLEAN ... put at least twenty sheets of newspaper on the floor and give him paper torn into 1/2" strips the LONG way of the newspaper for bedding. Give him enough 'guinea pig pellets' to eat in a day, and give him LOTS of 'fresh vegetables' like pieces of lettuce, apples (NO APPLE SEEDS though, since they are poisonous, and Lumpy can get sick or even die if he eats too many), pieces of RAW squash, and also peels from cucumbers, beets, turnips, etc.  You can give them the 'insides' too, but not too much cucumber, which is mostly water.  Play with him, pet him, and just sit by him and talk to him in a soft, quiet voice, and Lumpy will soon learn to love you and look to you for EVERYTHING.  If you want to, you can 'litter box train' Lumpy so he can live outside his cage, but if you do that, you MUST be sure to keep the floors clean, and make sure there is NO WAY he can get outside by himself.  Have fun with Lumpy ...
