Okay, so my guinea pig is so sweet and never bites anyone. But he got lice and so last week i took him to the vet and they gave him a shot. Ever since then, when you hold him or pet him he sometimes bites. What should i do?

  1. awww... ask your vet about him. it could be a side affect.

  2. What shot did he give him? Biting is not a side effect of any type of medication that is given to guinea pigs for lice. It may have affected him so he's afraid of getting another shot when he is held. But shots do not get rid of lice in guinea pigs, they get rid of mites. Mites live under the skin, lice live in the shafts of the hair. Therefore a topical treatment of Advantage, Revolution, or Ivermectin is much more effective than a shot. You can purchase them on your own, but if you go for Ivermectin (which I recommend, Revolution didn't work for our guinea pigs), you need to make sure you get the topical medication. Here is a link with some more information on treating guinea pigs with lice, it helped our guinea pigs get rid of theirs!

  3. AwWw! Go to the vet and ask because he could have some kind of side effect that could be annoying him. Good Luck!

  4. he's proberally afraid about getting another shot

    he assosiates petting with shots

try to regain his confidence by first giving him treats (don't just let him  run of with them hold them) and then try picking him up and giving him treats as well SLOWLEY come of the treats gradually drecreasing them otherwise he may asosiate hugs with treats and will start niping

here we go again ..... :)
