  1. When they curl that means they are due for a clip.

  2. Yes they do curl.  They need to be trimmed to prevent this.  They should not get that long.  They can eventually curl under hampering their movement and end up growing into their paws.  Please get them trimmed.

  3. Our nails curl too if left unkempt for that long.

yes you have to trim their nails.

A towel used to hold them and cover their eyes is helpful in calming them while you trim the nails.

Most guinea pigs have clear nails so it's easy to see the quick (The line you can see in the nail that is light pink.. DO NOT CUT INTO THE PINK PART!! MAJOR PAIN AND BLEEDING WILL ENSUE!

  4. You should be trimming their nails.  It isn't hard to do.  Just sit them in your lap and talk to them calmly.  Just cut the white part of the nail because if you go higher than that you will cut the quick and it will bleed.

  5. They need to be trimmed every couple of weeks. They grow very quickly.

  6. Guinea pig's nails will curl if you don't trim them. It's because they grow and that's how they grow. You need to trim them monthly. When you cut them just cut off the tip, or you will cut into the blood supply. If you do, just put it in syptic powder or flour to get it to stop bleeding faster. If the nails are really long then clip them a little bit every 3 days or so, so you can cut them without cutting the quick. Use regular nail clippers or the special animal ones. Try to get your guinea pig so it won't wiggle, usually holding their stomach with their back against your stomach and a paw between your fingers. Cut before the line in their nail. If they have dark nails, try shining a flashlight up through them. If you can't see the quick still, just be careful and have your syptic powder close by. Hope that helped a bit!

  7. Age and also if you do not trim them regularly enough.
