(BTW i haven't got it yet!)

ok, so ive looked at other questions about keeping them outside. now, im not allowed to keep them inside. and probably only allowed to keep one (i'm trying to get my mum to agree on keeping 2!) im afraid that i might not be able to play with them. im usually free after school, so i might be able to play with it often, and on the weekends im really free aswell.

but, is it enough?

also,

i can probably move the cage/ hutch inside a shed at night aswell, and cover it with a blanket or something.

and also, how do i convince my mum to keep 2? my dad probably wont care, lol.

  1. Don't get any if you can only have one and must keep them outdoors. It isn't fair to the guinea pig.

  2. If you really want a guinea pig, you should probably wait until you can keep it inside. I keep mine in my room, so if your Mom's problems are with smell or the mess, just make sure you clean its cage regularly, its not very messy at all.

But unless you want a million little guinea pigs you probably shouldnt get a boy and girl or at least ave them fixed. I dont know if you can do that or not, but if you have two of the same gender they may fight. So you need to look at all your options, and the consequences of each choice.

  3. First of all to Kandy, there is no such thing as an Albino Guinea Pig.

Pigs should not be kept outside. The weather is too unpredictable. They should also not be kept alone. They need a friend.

  4. It seems to me that you do not have the space and time to take care of a guinea pig. Guinea pigs are very sensitive animals and will die easily outside due to the weather. They need to be kept in a room where the temp. stays the same. Guinea pigs need alot of attention and it seems like you just dont have time for one. Maybe you should wait awhile and then try. The guinea pig wont be happy in those situations.

  5. its ok if ur guinea lives outside. if its outside please dont use a regular plastic cage, animals such as raccons and other predators can EASILY break into them. so u can build or buy a wooden hutch.

i have only one guinea. im in school too, and when i come home i play with him. sometimes ill even see him in the morning! and he is perfectly fine.

if you are going to keep him or her outside make sure it has protection against the wind and drafts. ( drafts can cause colds, etc)

go out and buy some guinea pig books. they dont even have to be new, its good to have some knoledge about the animal before u actully but it.

if ur getting a boy (boar is the real name for a male guinea pig) there is something quite yucky that u will have to do. there is a sort of pocket by the males private. between both testicles. u need to take a q tip and get the icky stuff out. its also really stinky. if u dont do this monthly it could cause the guinea to die! they do it to collect scents for the female by rubbing their bum on the ground.

(fwi i have a male) its not too bad but if u think its too gross then dont get a male. really it doesnt bug me.

    well i hope this helps!

    guineas rock!

  6. i really dont thinkyou should get a guinea pig until you can keep them inside

    their pretty sensitive to weather

  7. Well for starters, how about trying the following:

#1 Cleaning your room and making sure that it STAYS clean and tidy.

#2 Making sure that your homework is done and handed in on time.

#3 Sweep the floors in the living room and kitchen without your parents asking you to.

#4 Wash and/or dry the dishes.

#5 Do not fight and argue with your sisters & brothers.

#6 Eat what you are given and don't whine or make "yuck" faces when given it.

#7 Don't talk rudly to adults

#8 Always share with other kids.

#9 Go to bed when you are told to.

#10 Research the pet and breed you want to be 100% certain that it is the right one for you.

    # 11 Ask them about getting this new pet in a nice way and don't beg and whine about it.

If 100% sure that if you give those a try, they will see that you are serious about wanting to add a this pet to your life and family. :)

  8. k i had 2 gunea pigs outside in a chicken wire fence(tractor supply) and it was on a stand thing (home-made)and they did great dont put theem outside if its a albino thou !

  9. hmmm Gunea pigs are one of the most sensitive animals. They need constant care and attention and not only that but they hate being lonley and when there is no human interaction they get easily scared of humans.  Guniea pig should be part of the family and not an animal to be kept outside. Also if you do get one you should definitly get a friend because then he wont be as lonley if you dont have enough time for them

    :)

  10. did you know guinea pigs can DIE of loneliness?

did you know guinea pigs can DIE of being outside for more that an hour every 6 hours?

ive had guinea pigs and researched for over 2 years

  11. guinea pigs live in herds so 2 guinea pigs will play together as long as they arent fighting

  12. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but really, if you don't have:

    1) The ability to keep the piggie indoors.

    2) The time to play with the piggie at least a couple of hours EVERY day.

    3) The ability to keep two piggies

then you really should consider finding a different pet.

These animals are very sensitive to temperature and really should be kept in an environment with a stable temperature or they are prone to illness.

Secondly, it sounds like you lead a very active schedule. These animals require quite a bit of daily attention. It isn't fair to the piggie to be bored out of its mind while you're busy doing other things.

Lastly, these animals should really be kept in pairs to do their very best. I'm not saying that a lone pig can't live a healthy life. I'm saying it won't be a very happy one. They really *need* the interaction from another of their own kind to be truly happy. What is the poor piggie going to do all day while you're at school? Exactly my point. These animals live 5-7 years or more. I imagine in 7 years, you'll probably be more interested in other activities and have very little time for the piggie. I'm not trying to be hard on you, I'm just being realistic. These animals are a very big responsibility.

What about the piggie's diet? Who is going to be paying for the pellets, hay, and fresh veggies the piggie needs EVERY day?

It doesn't really sound like your mum is too keen on the idea, which tells me that if the piggie got sick (and they DO get sick from time to time) that she wouldn't be too keen on taking it to the vet either. Thats just something to think about.

  13. hide them up ur *** hole and shell never notice

  14. Why in the world are you even thinking about keeping them outside for starters! they are extremely sensitive to weather and you should spend all the time you can with the little fellow or buy him a cage mate. You can not let them get too hot or they will surely  die my suggestion as a guinea pig breeder is keep them in a room where you can keep them cool.

  15. Guinea pigs ARE NOT outside animals....I hate to say it but, if you can't handle them regularly and you can't keep 2, please for their sake, don't get them... ;0(
