Question:

Guitar Chords...?

I have a question about the G chord.

See, my guitar teacher taught me the G Chord as

1st Finger, 2nd Fret, 5th String (A String)

2nd Finger, 3rd Fret, 6th String (Low E String)

3rd Finger, 3rd Fret, 1st String (High E String)

BUT, I was reading through a guitar book I bought, and it has a lot of chords in it, and the G Chord is presented as follows

1st Finger, 2nd Fret, 5th String (A String)

2nd Finger, 3rd Fret, 6th String (Low E String)

3rd Finger, 3rd Fret, 2nd String (B String)

4th Finger, 3rd Fret, 1st String (High E String)

>_> Can someone explain to me why this is so, or Am I missing something?

Which is the correct way?

  1. There are many different ways to play one chord.  Some are partial, some are full.

  2. There are multiple ways of playing the same chord. Your could play G barre chord, power chord, open postion chord, etc. Or one of them could be wrong(most likely your teacher.) I would have to see it  but i hope that helps

  3. Both ways are correct.

    1st Finger, 2nd Fret, 5th String (A String)

    2nd Finger, 3rd Fret, 6th String (Low E String)

    3rd Finger, 3rd Fret, 2nd String (B String)

    4th Finger, 3rd Fret, 1st String (High E String)

The only difference that i believe it makes is that this G chord gives a fuller sound, so i personally use this G chord.

Both are a G chord though.

    Hope this helps

  4. these ways are correct for G chords, actually there are about ten more ways to play the sam chord but in different frets with different positions. I play G chord as E major chord where first finger bars the three fret, second finger fourth fret fourth string, third finger fifth fret on third string and fourth finger on top of the third finger same fret. Open G which is first finer on top stirng second fret, second finger near thr fouth or fifth string same fret and thrird finger near the second or third string next fret. other open g first finger bottom string first fret, second finger third string second fret, third finger third fret, one string above second finger.

There I taught you three more ways to play G give these a try and practice a lot.
