i am pretty much in a tight situation and I would love some advice or tips. Well, I am a 15 year old pianist and I wanted to take guitar. My Family told me I can take guitar when I'm finished with piano, but who knows when that'll be. So I guess I cannot take guitar, but is there any other way I can learn guitar without an instructor? How do you get self taught? Or should I just buy a how to play guitar book?

  1. you can teach yourself with a book that teaches you the notes and the chords. thats what im doing.

    :]

  2. FIRST OF ALL don't give up the piano.  It provides a grounding you can use for playing any other instrument, especially the guitar because you can just pick up any piano score and play it directly on the guitar and THAT can be very important.

I started on piano when I was 6, then picked up the guitar at 14 because I suddenly realized I could pick up more Chic's with a guitar than a baby grand.

Over the years I have used BOTH my ability to play piano AND guitar to make a living.. When I was 17 and busking on the streets of Europe and Asia with my guitar I was also playing piano in bars at night for the tips.

If you can play both piano and guitar...you will ALWAYS be the first person invited for the after hours party in someone's home and that can translate into some free food and a place to crash for the night.

THINK AHEAD... with your musical skills, you can go to Europe or Asia or Africa and live as long as you want to, just on busking... if you are any good AND.. no matter what you eventually do for a profession... you will ALWAYS know you can just take your guitar and your passport and earn a living anywhere.
