Guitar Players Poll: Did you take lessons or teach yourself?

I'm in the process of teaching myself and getting lessons in about a month after I learn some chords and a few basic songs. What about you?

I taught myself with some help from guitar-playing friends. However, I had previously/concurrently taken private lessons and played in several groups on other instruments, so I had all the music-reading and theory knowledge I needed. It was basically just learning chords, rhythm patterns and such that I had to learn.

I taught myself. I took a month of classes to learn new stuff. I knew how to play piano already so it was all about knowing where the notes are.

Yeah both, I taught myself at first then got frusturated cause i couldn't understand a lot of stuff so i took private lessons for a year, and now I am back to teaching myself and playing with people better then me.

I know there are thousands or even millions who say they taught there self.  It is a mater of terminology.  It means in most cases that they did not pay for lessons.  I taught myself guitar, except that I bought many a book on different ways of playing guitar.  I talked to lots of other guitar players about how they did certain things on the guitar. Some of those talks lasted for hours and were repeated often.

In all of those situations I was being taught.

Like most, I got frustrated and decided to quit.  A friend wouldn't let me do it. He gave me a gift certificate for 6 months of private lessons.

I thank him ever time I see him.
