OK i started guitar last week and i know like 10 chords and i can read some notes(which I'm still working on). So if you learn a lot of chords and practice from going to chord to chord will you be able to play a lot of songs? is guitar really that easy or am i missing something?

Thanks for the help! ♥

  1. Strumming along with the right chords is pretty easy, but if you listen to music, you'll know that there are several kinds of guitar parts:

    1. The most important, in my opinion, is the "rhythm guitar" or sometimes "lead guitar", electric or acoustic, which may carry the hook/riffs, melodies, usually played one or two or a few notes at a time, and may involve chords in there too.  It's character is only limited by your imagination and musica/technical skill.

    2. The "guitar solo", almost certainly played on electric which isn't much in fashion nowadays.

    3. Then there's strumming along to chords, usually on an acoustic, to fill out the sound.

Download some guitar tabs and you'll see that music played on guitar can have a wide range of textures.  It's not just chords or leads.

  2. not that simple.

of course you will get better at changing chords faster but its best to work on more theory so you can start to create songs, learn scales, chord progressions, modes, circle of fifths etc.

but you will get better as your fingers become more flexible

  3. You will be able to play a lot of songs, and have a lot of fun doing it. The thing about guitar is that there will always be some new technique or style to learn and challenge you. Other then the 10 chords you know, you can learn different voicings, positions, inversions, etc. Playing Lead and improvising are also things you can look into learning.

  4. Pretty much yes.  Learn chords, play songs, get better.

The only other thing you're missing is, well, rhythm.  Other then that, practice and you're good to go.

Maybe you just have a natural talent or something :D
