im a begginner guitar player, and i cant seem to get the f sharp minor chord to sound, because my fingers feel really akward when i play it.

maybe its because my index finger doesnt push the strings all the way down, but no matter how much i practice, i cant get the chord to sound pure and there is always a muffled sound, so any tips to help me would be much appreciated. thanks

  1. Instead of laying your index finger across all 6 strings, use your thumb to hold down the low E string, and your index finger to hold down the first three strings, E-B-G.

Using the thumb to hold down the low E string will work well up to the 5th fret.  Higher than that, you will have to use your index finger to hold down all six strings.

    Been playing since the 60s.

  2. try pushing on your infex finger with your middle finger

If it is the fingers joint is in the way rotate your finger counter clockwise

and if it still dosnt work play it like the F with only the bottom four strings get rid on the top two

  3. Your best bet is to put .009 on your guitar (extra light gauge string). I suspect the action is slightly high and by putting the recommended string i am proposing, the neck will drop just enough to facilitate your playing.

You should be able to do bar chords at this point.

  4. Start with the basic F#m by increasing your finger strength. Omit the top two strings and get the fourth, third, second, and first strings hammered down. (XX4222)

Once you can get that chord sounding fine, then use your thumb on the sixth string and place your ring finger on the fourth, and your little finger directly beneath on the third string.
