  1. There is no need to spend that much money unless you really want to.

And, I must say, A STRAT IS NOT CLICHE!!!!! It is common because it is one of the finest electric guitars on the market!!!  (John Mayer, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy,  etc, etc, etc.....cliche?  In you're wildest dreams you should be so cliche.)  If you are more interested in what is cool, than what is a true instrument, then go buy some flame painted piece of c**p that looks good in photos but plays like a 2 by 4.

Oh, now you've got me all pissed off.  I cant't deal with this anymore.  Go put on some mascara and dye your hair black.

    Grrrrrrrrrrr................

  2. Ah the peppers...gotta love em!

Well John Frusciante uses mainly strats as you may know..but I agree with your inference about the cliche. I have a strat and gibson SG and a Fender Telecaster and out of all of them...I find my SG makes great tones that are similar with John's stuff...it could just be my axe though. I mean every guitar is different! I recommend heading up to guitar center and try at least 10 guitars. DON'T BE IMPATIENT! Play the stuff you will usually play and just chill with it. But whatever you do, do not let the folks at guitar center get you to buy something you're not sure about (they're awfully pushy since they're on commission) GOOD LUCK!

  3. Any guitar can play any style, though granted some are better suited for it.  And @ "something so cliche" c'mon that's not what guitar is about :(

I would recommend getting something that does fairly well on all styles.  Really to find a guitar you like you have to go and play on all of the brands and decide for yourself.  Try a local guitar store, really play for a while on all styles, anything, even if you think you would dislike it.  Use the same amp for them all if you'll be using one, and make sure it's decent to hear the full impact of the guitar.

The guitar itself is merely a piece of a much greater instrument, it's the housing for all the parts that make a guitar good or bad.  Try to get one with pickups that have a nice tone for what you prefer, otherwise you may have to change them.  Picks and strings are also important, whether or not to have a tremolo, and what kind.  Consider all the factors you can find carefully before buying the guitar.

    Good luuuck! :)
