Guitar help!!!! =] (acoustic)?

Question

okay...im just starting off guitar and i know nothing about it. i would love to play likee a professional but my dad wont get me lessons until he knows i will committ and am actaully ABLE to learn--ouch! i know... so0 i just wanna ask...what are some other good ways to learn the guitar without taking lessons...i love reading if that helps =]

PLay around with the guitar at first. Get comfortable with it in your hands.  When your playing, keep a straight posture and sit when your learning.  If you cant get lessons, there are some books or online sites that can help.

k so the reading thing helps a lot, i would suggest going to a music/guitar store (guitar world is  a great place) and see if they have a book with notes in it....i got a book when i first started playing it had all the notes in it an diagrams of where to put your fingers and stuff, it really helped me.

Save up your money and pay for the lessons yourself.  They're not that expensive.

go to youtub and type in instructional guitar.they have all kinds of lessons for beginners to pro.

Get a book about chords--it will have pictures in it to show yoy where to place your fingers on the strings...and get a book with songs in it which have the chords and their pictures in it above the words for singing..that's a good start!
