  1. Hello. The best way for me to learn guitar was to get a book from the library. I would suggest looking there first. But here's how it works.

There are 5 strings. The thinnest one should be tuned to the note "e". To tune a string, you should buy a tuner at a music store, and play the note until it is tuned by turning the k**b at the top. The next strings should be tuned to: "b", "g", "d", "a", "e".

Now, the way the notes work, take your starting note, (why don't we start on the lowest "e" (THICK string) to make it easy), and a scale goes in the following sequence: whole step, whole step,  half step, whole step, whole step, whole step, half step. Every fret on the guitar represents one half step, so to play an "e" major scale, first play the string open, then play the 2nd fret, then the 4th fret, then switch to the next string, play the open string, play the 2nd fret, play the 4th fret, then switch to the next string, play the 1st fret, then play the 2nd fret. CONGRATULATIONS! That's a scale. The order of notes (there are twelve) goes: e, f, f-sharp, g, g-sharp, a, a-sharp, b, c, c-sharp, d, d-sharp, e. This is A LOT of stuff to grasp, so again, check out a book about guitar from your library. If you would like these mini-lessons from me, please don't hesitate to write back! I wish you the best of luck!
