Question:

Guitar help please?!?

when i strum or like struming let say the A chord.(i been play guitar for only a week) i strum down starting on the 5th string but when i strum up i sometime accidentilly strum the 6th string with it, same goes for the D chords, also when i down strum the note 1st string (high)E always sound the loudest and the chord come out all bad and stuff.

  1. strum from the wrist so the edge of your right hand near the wrist muffles the low E, no need to strum from the elbow,  

    same with D


  2. when you strum up try to stop the pick right when you get there... and with your other problem strum quietly(more quite then now) and increase sound when confortable with the sound

I had the same problem when i first started guitar.  Practice is the key to mastering the basic chords on the guitar.  When you strum your guitar just focus on not hitting that particular string.  Focus everytime you play thoes chords and soon you will play them perfectly.  Just remember, practice makes perfect.  You have only been playing the guitar one week. You cant expect to be able to play the chords perfect.  Good luck! =]
