What are the stuff i needa knw bfore buying a guitar ?

Like, how do i maintain it nd all ?

Congratulations on your interest for Guitar.

It is a very interesting and versatile instrument that happens to be used in most music styles in many countries around the world.

Buying a guitar and learning to play is like choosing a car, depends on your style and the things you like. Some will want a large family car for a soft comfortable ride, some a 4x4 monster truck, and some a 4 cyl hybrid that is friendly to the environment even if one might look like a dork driving it.... (no offense to them, its just that I'm the 4x4 kinda guy...)

So, to answer your question, my suggestion is that you first decide what kind of music you want to play, and that will lead you towards the kind of guitar you want to buy.

If you are into classical, flamenco or mariachi music - you need an acoustic one with nylon strings

If you are into country bossa nova, trova or even beattles or sheryl crow or REM, an acoustic one with steel strings is your thing

But if you like anything from U2 or Bryan Adams all the way to Metallica or Slayer, then you definitively need an Electric Guitar (and an Amp).

In this case, if you are playing Metallica or Iron Maiden please do not buy the pink guitar with the Hello Kitti graphics, and same if you will be playing Britney Spears stuff do not buy the one with skulls and fake blood, I suggest you buy the guitar style similar of your "guitar hero's", don't worry too much about specifics now as it will be a while before you actually start realizing the differences between them (pickups, tremolo, nut size, electronics, etc.) - also if you buy electric you will need an amplifier - buy a small 15 W or there are packages ready-to-go at www.musiciansfriend.com

Learning is really very easy, but you will need to practice a lot. I mean, A LOT and it will eventually come out right.

I strongly recommend taking lessons to speed up the learning curve

Oh - almost forgot, guitars don't need a lot of maintenance, and you'll learn along the way how to re-string them and stuff, but again, don't worry, I had one guitar that did not got re-strung for many years, but that's a different subject.

Most guitar packs have everything you need to start playing guitar. Check out three or four of them and compare their contents. You will usually need a tuner, strap, and if electric a cable and amp.
