i'm a beginning guitarist, and i was wondering what i would need to have so i could learn as much as i can about chords, tabs, advanced techniques, etc

I would also like to know how many guitar brands there are, which one is better in your opinion, why, and what is your second choice, what is the better string gauge, what kinds of amps there are, and how much an average guitar costs

  1. Hey buddy, Check out www.ultimate-guitar.com.

Its heaps filled with lessons, tabs, exercises and with tons and tons of helpful people, you won't go wrong!

As a fellow guitarist, I HIGHLY recomend cheking it out.

Add me as a mate and let me know what you think.

As far as guitar brands go...

Some reputable brands include fender, gibson, EPC, yammaha. (personally I like gibson, lol).

Also however, many different guitars put out different styles of sound so it then norrows it down to a sound which suits the style of music your into. A good way to get an idea of what each guitar sounds iike, simply go onto youtube.com and search the guitar to hear someone playin it.

String guages will later come into play as you become more proficiant with your playing (I use standard string with gauge 10's for the 5th and 6th strings of my guitar). So for the time being, stick with standard stings until you get a beter feel for the type of music you want to play.

And for amps. I would say that brand at this stage is not too much of an issue. Unless you are a preformer, any good old practice amp will do the job. I personally recomend somthing with a minimum output of 30watts and an amp that provides distortion (if you wanna play som rock, ull need it lol).

    Recomended brand: Roland.

One other thing to note is to ensure that if you aspire to play rock, ensure that you have humbuckers (like double pickups). This should also halp to give your guitar a cool sound.

As far as prices go: you might be able to pick somthing up for as cheap as $30 on ebay (but I strongly recomend NOT buying a guitar from ebay). a decent begginer guitar will cost you around $400 (and you can modify these guitars and make em sound pretty cool too. I previously had a fender strat for $400 and modified it... lol it sounded crazy) and then prices can go upto as high as $10,000 ("slight'' exageration lol).

lol, hope that kinda helped buddy.

All the best with your guitar journey lol.

    Cheers.

  2. Whoa there! Advanced techniques? :) You're putting the cart before the horse. It's like an eager kindergartener asking for the textbooks and tools for grades 1-12 and beyond....

Just slow down and nail each level of your education well.

As far as brands of guitars and amps, there are literally hundreds.

Any used guitar in good repair at a guitar shop should be fine. You can get them for well under a hundred bucks. Pick one that you like the looks of - for your starter guitar don't worry so much about brands and just get some lessons to learn your chops.

Your budget will largely determine what brands you can acess.

Tabs are song covers, and typicalyl a lot easier to read and understand than regular sheet music. The downfall of tabs are that they cover the notes, but they don't cover the rhythm.
