Guitar hero II controller doesnt play

I have guitar hero 2 controller, but playing guitar hero 3 game.. the buttons work on the screen but no sound comes out when you press the buttons.. but when you put the regular controller it works.. please help.... please email me at mercedes.raffulls@ge.com
