1. The transition should be smooth. As BMsoccer said "gd gd gd". Try using a metronome and start slowly; then, increase the speed gradually. -By this I mean, in the simplest fashion, dedicate each chord to the downbeat. however, walk, do not run! You should be able to transition comfortably and accurately with ease and without pain. Don't overdo it and have fun as well.

  2. Like any instrument, it takes practice to get better. Once you build muscle memory in your fingers, the switch between chords will be natural. I would suggest playing at a constant SLOW tempo, 4 beats on each chord, keep the beats very steady. Starting thinking about the next chord while strumming. Gradually speed up once you feel more comfortable. I cannot stress the importance of staring slow. You can do this to practice the transition between any chords. Remember... Slow and Steady.

    Good Luck

  3. gd gd gd gd gd gd gd ................

  4. Here is what i do:

(Practice of course but this is the finger chart I'd use.)

Here is a way to play the G chord:

-----3------

-----3------

-----0------

-----0------

-----2------

-----3------

Then you hold you're ring finger on the 3rd fret on the 2nd string without moving it and switch to the D chord.

    Good Luck!

  5. Go to the music store and buy a book of "alternate fingering" charts.  If you learn a bunch of these, you'll find one that makes the transitions easier from whatever chord you are playing to whatever one you want to play next...
