  1. Do it slowly. Take five minute breaks so you don't get really frustrated. Doing this will help you out, since you'll be thinking clearly and be mellowed out.

  2. Well one of the first things a guitarist should know is chord progression. I suggest you try to find a common note for the chords since this will help you to switch it quickly and also you should also practice like moving your fingers to position if you keep on doing you'll eventually get used to it and will be able to do it Lastly, try the "pro trick" while you are changing chords don't stop strumming then as fast as you can move it to the next chord even though you're playing through the open strings you should be able to play it sounding good.

  3. hmm. when i learn a new song, i play it really slowly while keeping time. try holding a d chord and then switch to a c chord really slowly. after you do that, try switching to a slow beat and work your way up to the tempo you want. hope that helps!

  4. Try doing it blind folded. This helped me a bit, but switching chords just came to me. I exercised a lot and eventually I was able to switch chords like a pro. To help me, I used this program called Guitar Pro from http://www.guitar-pro.com/en/index.php    This program allows you to import songs teaching you how to play it and allows you to set the tempo, transpose the song for easier playing and it is a very good program for a learning guitarist.

  5. I ran out of breath by reading your non-stop paragraph. Taking the advice of other replies, remember to practice slowly and accurately. It takes time to master the first few chords because your fingers don't want to cooperate.

You must train your wrist to come into the effort too. Coming from a D chord to the C chord requires a certain twisting of the wrist to accommodate the C chord.

Build each chord one finger at a time and then speed up the process until it becomes natural and faster.

I gather you haven't attempted the mother of all chords yet, which is the F chord.

Cress is right; think transitional, three-note movements from one chord to the next. Think about Johnny Cash's big hit song, "Walk the Line" and try some of those runs that his lead guitarist does that made the song famous.

  6. OK... first of all... SLOW DOWN!!! Before you can switch chords fast you need to be able to switch chords ACCURATELY. Then SLOWLY increase the speed at which you do it. After a while you will wonder how you ever had a problem with it.
