okay im starting out and idk if i should start out on acoustic or electric. i REALLY wanna learn electric guitar though. which should i start out on? wat is your opinion on. these brands....?

If electric is what you really want to play... go for it!  Ive seen time and time again where someone picks up an instrument they really dont want to play.  What usually happens... sits in the corner and collects dust.  While they are both guitars, they are so much different in what can and cant be done on them.

  Any of the brands you mentioned are good guitars.  Schecter makes a wonderful guitar.. the Omen, at about 300 bucks.  Fender and Gibson are both great companies as well. Same with Ibanez and Epiphone.

     If you know of anyone who has played guitar for a long time.. see if you can have that person go with you when buying.  They will know what to look for, as far as how the guitar is put together, the fit and finish...... how the frets are set in the neck.... also if the guitar is set up well where theres no fret buzz and has a good calibration on it.

   Sometimes you do have to be leary of a salesperson helping you out.  While 2 guitars of different brands may be priced the same... if hes on a comission basis, he just might steer you to the one with the highest comission for him and not necessarily the right choice for you.  I have seen this happen quite a few times.  Thats why its a good idea to take a very experienced player with you if at all possible.  Harmony Central is a website you can also go to that will give you users reviews on what they think of a particular instrument.

While an electric IS easier on your fingers, you should really focus on building finger strength first. I personally started with a cheap acoustic. It hurt terribly at first, But you'll be thankful later when you can play any guitar with no problems. Also, Gibson is TERRIBLY overrated, the quality has really gone down in recent years, you're only paying for the Gibson name. Ibanez has some great, quality beginner electrics, but still overpriced because it is such a mainstream brand. I recommend a brand called "Cort" EXCELLENT guitars at a reasonable price. Never be suckered in by brand names.

I am also starting guitar, so my advice is pretty simple following what i did. If you have money for both an acoustic and electric guitar, then you should start on acoustic and then go to electric. Also, Gibson makes great guitars. If i were you, I would get Gibson.

It really doesn't matter which you start on - the chords are the same on both. If you want to play electric, then that's where you should go.

Fender is good, Gibson's acoustic is wonderful, their electric is okay. In fact, any electric is okay because the guitar itself isn't what gives you the sound, it's the pickup and the amplification.

just start on electric and my fav brands are gibson and fender i say get a stratocaster or a gibson les paul...

I had the same problem, my parents suggested acoustic, but in the end i decided electric, when you play you can still hear it, its quieter (my mom almost will never let me play my acoustic because of the "racket"), and there just pretty cool looking.

To decide on the guitar you want you have to think what you want to play, what do you want your guitar to look like, classic, edgy ... ect. I think for good quality and price. Epiphone is the best way to go, they're pretty cheap and have the gibson look and sound awesome!

i think u should start with electric cuz a acoustic is harder to play on. the fret board is fatter, the strings r hard to slide on, and theres more to do on an electric. and all the brands r great but u might want to take out gibson unless ur rich cuz all there guitars r expensive as **** and there v's suck

Here's my opinion: I say start acoustic, but only to strengthen yourself. All guitars have different builds, and the way the neck is made is no exception. Guitars have different spacing between the strings and the neck (its called something, but I can't remember the term) so it's harder or easier to hold down a fret. All acoustic guitars are slightly harder to press down, so starting with an acoustic will really build calaces (cant spell). After you are strong enough, move to electric. You will be so pleasently suprised by how easier it is to press down frets and move across the fretboard that you'll be rockin out in no time! LOL! I have an electric guitar though, and I started with it back in Febuary of this year. Its not so bad to start with electric, but when I try to play acoustic guitars, I get so tired so fast! I hve an Epiphone, and it works great! It's my pride and joy, and I love it so... *reminises on past moments*. I'm 13 and not a good player, so that may be why it hurts, but Im sure that you'd want to start acoustic, just for the stength. And heres a secret I want to share. NEVER try and build calaces on your fingertips by holding your fingertips against a treadmill that is moving very fast. You think it will work, but then your skin is burned off and you can't comfertably touch things for a week, much less play a guitar. Bad idea. =D good luck with your playing!

Oh yea, quick note. Acoustics sound very clear when the electric is all distorted and jumbled together in sound, even when not in an amp, but electric is best, trust me. AWESOMENESS

I just started playing the acoustic guitar!! 2 of my friends have electric guitar but I dont like them because the strings are thinnner. It depends which sound u like better! if you learn to play the acoustic u could always switch or the other way around! and I like gibson and if you havent heard of takamine those are my favorite!! good luck!

My opinion is you can start out with either. But in my own experience I found out that playing the acoustic guitar first is better. Once you learn all the steps of playing the acoustic guitar, electric gets so much easier. Before I've started playing guitar, I've always wanted to learn electric, not acoustic, but I learned that I should learn the basics first. And the basic is Acoustic (In my opinion, doesn't really matter). In acoustic guitar, you don't have to deal with all the little pegs like the little volume k***s (I mean the k***s are weird), buying the amp, and all those complicated things. So I started off with acoustic. After I learned the basics like, tuning, changing strings, actually taking care of the guitar, playing with the Electric was so much easier afterwards, because I learned how to tune a guitar, change the strings (might be different on both), and taking care of it. Now all I need to learn is to tune those k***s on whichever kind of sound I like. So I suggest going with acoustic first. Electric might seem more 'FUN' but so is acoustic. (But just my opinion, choose whichever you want. GO FOR IT). (Just personal experience.)

For the guitar brands you have listed, out of all those brands I gotta say Gibson. All the way. They are a bit pricey, but I love them. If you are going for one of the Gibsons. I suggest the Les Paul. They are really, really neat. The sound is amazing. If you think that Gibson is too pricey. The Epiphone Les Paul works too. It's really great. Ibanez is cool. And for Fender I would say... the Stratocaster. It makes great music. Really awsome.

So I would say

My first choice is going to be Gibson.

If it's too expensive I would go with the Epiphone (Les Paul).

Or If you don't like Les Paul...

Try Fender or Ibanez.

We all have different taste, so I suggest you go to a store and try out all of them. Whichever sound you would like. A store I suggest is Guitar Center. They have great service. They will help you with all your needs.

Also, if you are planning to go acoustic. There are some great guitars out there as well.

For Gibson I'd go with the Hummingbird or Dove ones. (They ARE expensive.) So alternatives to those are Epiphone Hummingbird or Dove.

Or try Martin guitars. Or even Collings (They are amazing.) Also the Taylor guitars are great too!

So you've got a lot of choices here. Take your time and don't rush.

Eletric is easier to learn on because it's not so harsh on your fingers but it's a pain when you go to play an acoustic because you have to go through strength building and a bit of callus building again. I learned on an eletric and kinda regret it when I got my acoustic. I suggest getting an acoustic then eletrics will be easier to play later on. But other then that it doesn't matter.

For eletrics for beginners I reccomend Ibanez or Epiphone. For acoustic Epiphone.
