Guitar question, self-taught?

how many of you guys self taught yourself to playing guitar?

I am self taught. Piano is my main instrument, so In not super good on the guitar, but good enough to get by!

I'm self taught i had good reading material, a lots of help from God. What i find helps is listening to all kinds of music, finding a good guitar book or system, learning your scales, looking up tabs of songs that you love, and playing with others(so play with pros or even with friends you'll find yourself doing stuff you never thought possible) I pretty proficent and i'm very proud of being self taught and its just a matter of sticking with it and praciticing.

Hi Simple..... I am self taught and pretty proficient. i started playing at 16 and practice many long hours.

Then, I bought some books and started to practice reading and some chords. Eventually, after 10 years, I landed myself a job as Studio Session Musician and paid off.

Practice every day if you want to get anywhere. In my time, there was no youTube so you are lucky and can go on it. Their are many lessons and videos on how to improve.

In the periods where I was out of a guitar teacher (which was twice), I tried teaching myself. After getting the G chord down, I bought a really good guitar book. In all honesty, even though I had a good source of lessons on my hands, eventually I couldn't get anywhere.

Thank God for my third teacher because he's the best (where I live, I mean). I've gotten pretty far having a professional by my side.

I am not self taught, my teacher is a great guy who taught Billy Martin of Good charlotte. He is laid back, and i bring in a CD and we learn songs on it while still learning theory, modes, scales, keys, techniques, etc.

i did, i learned some basic chords, and how to switch them, powerchords, a few tabs i liked, and i jumped into a band... then i started messing with solos and scales and stuff over time
