  1. FIRST: tune your guitar

    (you can download it too!)

Tabs are good, but you need help starting to work with them, I would recommend you check out lazyfret on youtube.

the first song I learned on the guitar was horse with no name.

aka the easiest song in the world

  2. Use google, learn your scales, you can learn your cords by looking at pictures (plenty on google images). And mostly you can learn by playing TABS, which was easy to read music sheets that you can find on the internet.. Start off with basic songs and as you get more comfortable work yourself up to the more complicated songs.

  3. 1.  Take your guitar to a reputable music store and have it tuned.

    2.  Purchase a book titled, "Hal Leonard's Beginning Method #1." It also has a CD for a bit more money. You can use this book to learn basic music theory and chords.

    3.  Pick up a complete chord book that has at least 2,500 chords.

    4.  Be prepared to move beyond the painful fingertips until the calluses arrive. If you don't have the drive to learn you won't be able to play.

    5.  Take a vocal class in high school where you will learn to sing, read and write music.

    6.  Develop a solid practice schedule and stick to it. Be quick to elicit tips from guitar players to help you form good playing habits.

Added note: Playing by tablature is all right up to a point, but it nowhere competes with learning music notation. Don't rely on tablature to increase your expertise. Stay away from capos, otherwise called "cheaters."

  4. i had the same situation. first thing i learned was chords. The most important chords for me were G, C, Em, and D. So learn those first and once you have that down check out www.ultimate-guitar.com out and search for an easy song that only uses those chords. I know that I'm Yours by Jason Mraz and All Summer Long by Kid Rock only use those chords. You will find more on that site.

If you go to youtube.com you can search up "acoustic guitar lessons" and there are several free lessons. GOOD LUCK!

  5. I wish I could help!:)

  6. www.justinguitar.com it's free and there is a lot of good info and instruction

  7. I taught myself how to play guitar.

And I did it using tabs.

Tabs tell you where to put your fingers to make the chords. It won't tell you things like timing or rhythm, mind you.

Go to Google and type in the name of a song you'd like to play. Add the word 'tab' to the end of it. Then learn how to play that song. The tabs will tell you where to put your fingers, and you will have to rely on your own memory to work out the rhytmn.

The lessons you learn doing this will help you play other songs as well.

That's how I learnt. I'm not a genius with a guitar by a long stretch, but I can pick one up, play a few tunes and it impresses people!

Best of luck. Don't give up! Please, don't give up!

  8. Get Esteban's dvd lessons. Most big bookstaores carry em

  9. One word: Tabs. I tried the Estabon DVD thing and it didn't help AT ALL. Awful lessons... I love guitar tabs though. Learn your chords by using these tabs, and make sure you get them down. Almost all songs start of with a riff using chords. I don't play so much acoustic guitar... more electric. I prefer the electric feeling. But before starting to play make sure you have your guitar tuned, a good strap, and plenty of picks... trust me, they're easy to loose. I taught myself by ear. Once you learn the basic chords its pretty easy. Picking gets kind of tricky but you don't worry about that so much on an acoustic. Good luck!
