Hi ! I play electric guitar...but till now my playing position was sitting on a chair...i'm pretty much still a beginner but i wanted to ask if i should exercise playing from a "standing up position"..i tryed it and i pretty much suck ...i am still a beginner, when should i do my exercises from a standing up position? does this skill requiere lots of practice? in how much time will i be able to play fluently standing up?

  1. Try several positions.  You may not always be playing in a sitting position.  This will also give you the chance to adjust your strap, and give your wrist some exercise.


  2. try to get the strap to hold the guitar at about the same position as you have it when sitting. Then unplug and walk around doing chords and scales.

  3. I had trouble standing up when I started as well, but I got fully used to it in about 3 months. I didn't really practice it, it just came naturally as I got more comfortable with my chords and everything. I would just suggest adjusting your strap to a height close to where it is when you're sitting. If you are having trouble seeing the fretboard to know where to play, I would get a sturdy little box to put one leg up on so the guitar will be angled back toward you a little more like this l\ instead of this ll. Don't stress it too much, you'll get it soon enough.
