Okay I want to get 12s on my guitar next time I restring so I can tune down to A. Will that be heavy enough?

  1. Hi

    The gauge is heavy at .012. If you tune down one tone, it will compensate and release some of the tension on the neck.  Don't forget that going from .010 to .012 puts 150 pds of tension approx, on the neck. Too much. I agree that the neck can hold it but it warps and bows in the end.

    Don't put higher than .012 and even there, I don't suggest it but by drop tuning, at least, it won't be so bad.

  3. I would suggest you go up to a little heavier. I would look for some 15's if I were you. Hopefully your guitar will be able to support that big of a string. Make to check that first.

  4. if you want 15's, you should probably check with a pro.

    all i can say is if you change your guage, you have to reset your intonation
