a year or two ago a i took a classical guitar class and we worked with well classical guitars with plastic strings & stuff not the metal ones or whatever on acoustic guitars. but that was different we were reading sheet music and playing with our fingers not guitar picks.. now i am learning acoustic guitar and i know that i can get the notes the only thing stopping me a lot is that my fingers hurt and i cant press down on the notes by the frets & stuff... can i learn on a plastic string guitar or get plastic strings for my guitar even if i eventually hope to play electric and stuff? i also want to learn to play bass since i find that playing with my fingers and not a pick comes naturally... is it a bad idea to play with plastic strings and not the regular ones or not?

  1. i would recommend that you just keep up with the steel stringed acoustic. your fingers will hurt for a while, but soon you'll get calluses and it wont be painful anymore. that way you'll be used to the feeling when you start playing bass. electric guitar strings are actually easier to play than acoustic.
