Question:

Guitar tips needed....?

I have been playing the guitar for a couple of years now. I needed a little help because i wanted to add a bigger horizon on the songs that i can play. I need some tips on 2 things

1. How to tap solos and stuff. When i try it, i can not hear the note from the finger(s) that i am tapping with that good. It sounds rather muffled and/or not heard at all.

2. Also, if anyone had any tips on how to play rather long by strumming moderatelly/really fast without getting your hand tired.

For example, the tapping that i want to work on is the solo for "One" by Mettalica. And the fast playing part is used in the intro for "The Sound Of Truth" by As I Lay Dying.

Any suggestions or websites are welcome as long as they pretain to the subject.

- Thank you.

  1. Hey, I've been playing for about a year and a half, and I can tap the first part of the solo to "One" You can also try tapping it with the edge of your pick, and if it still sounds muffled then try changing the settings on your amp. It could also be that your timing is just off, so just keep practicing.

  2. I'm not sure about the tapping, but I can tell you that for your #2 question, start using rest picking (when you pick down, you "rest" on the string below, then go back up). What that does is it that the string below acts like a trampoline, so to speak, which makes it easier to pick fast. There's less hand movement involved in this.
