  1. you never tune the guitar up or down a halfstep. You are damaging the truss rod inside the neck and eventually, you will scrap the neck because the shims that are positioned underneath the fingerboard, fall out of place when you down tune.

It's your neck. If you do lower 1/2 tone, make sure you put it back up after playing.

The neck is meant to support so much tension and has to be respected.

Secondly, learn to play the scales correctly. You should never have to lower the pitch because it is easy to shift keys on the guitar.

  2. Depends on the gauge of the strings, if you have 9's, that's standard, and you have more accessability to higher tunnings, maybe 1 tone up on all the strings. But if you have 12's and above, then you may want to reach the lower tunnings, for metal, 1 or 2 tones down on all strings. It really depends on the gauge of the strings.

  3. I myself tune for standard most of the time. For all my rhythm guitar i tune standard, for songs that take alot of lead guitar i tune half step down. but i don't tune half step down all the time for lead guitar ir's totally optional. i just find it easir to bend. Most heavy metal bands play in Dropped D tuning and Dropped C tuning.

  4. well its great to have youe guitar in regular tuning for the best sound, but metal and hardcore bands always tune the high E string to a D to make it sound deeper... Hope its useful to you!
