many times live versions of tunes are tuned down, because it saves the singer's voice on the road

okay...first of all..Green Day does not tune down...they play in standard for the most part

K..with that said, here are some bands that play down a half step

Guns N Roses

Alice In Chains  (I know you already put both of those)

Nirvana

Stevie Ray Vaughn (not easy to play though!!)

Breaking the Girl (RHCP)

some Smashing Pumpkins

some Weezer

The Killers (blah!)

Just about ALL greenday stuff is tuned down.

'Rooster' by AIC is a good one - we were just playing a version of it at practice last night.

Probably my favorite though is 'Them Bones'.  It's just heavier than dammit.

I generally play a half-step low all the time though, and then D-tune (technically C#) when I want to really crunch.
